Possum Relocation

The Brushtail and Ringtail possums are both common in Sydney. Ringtail possums will often nest in the branches of a tree, but the Brushtail possum prefers the shelter of a hollow tree. When they cannot find hollow trees, they will often nest in attics. Some people will tolerate their noise, but very few will tolerate them when their urine soaks through the Gyprock ceiling…

My primary business is the relocation of European honey bees from the walls of homes. I also get many calls for bees that have nested in possum boxes. This has introduced me to possums and their nesting habits. Home repairs needed due to honey bees are similar to the repairs needed for possums, so it was an easy extension of my business to include possum removal.

Being a native and protected species, we can trap and remove the possums from your attic, but must release them nearby. The possums will try to get back into your attic, so careful sealing of their entrance is critical. I take this a step further and will always present the possum with an alternative home, a “possum box” hung from a nearby tree or attached to the house near the old entrance. This is both respectful of nature and also reduces the desire for the possums find an alternative entrance to your attic.

My typical service will begin with an inspection and placement of the trap (about $330 if you live within 20 minutes of Neutral Bay). On a second visit I will remove the trap, seal the entry point, mount the possum box, and release the possum (about $330 – $550). The possum box may be a basic model for $120 or a fancy model like this one for around $400:
